Dear Friends…

I have made the difficult decision to step away from our beautiful shop at 113 Brock. 

When I opened Words on Wood in 2014, I had no idea what I was doing (pretty sure I usually still don’t!). But, I have always had a love for home decor and for creativity and for spontaniety, and so I took a leap. I had no idea what a blessing it would be. Words on Wood has brought me friends, taught me lessons, and most importantly, allowed me the freedom to always be present for my kids. My daughter has grown from being the little elf everyone loved at our shopping events to running the store and workshops independently. My son still lays claim to being the speediest vaccuumer and the best stock unpacker. We’ve watched the Santa Clause parade from our prized window seats and we’ve celebrated birthdays and friendship in our own private painting workshop. 

None of this would have been possible without the incredible community of shoppers who have supported us over the last eleven years! Thank you so much for choosing to support a small, independent business.

Rest assured, I’m not looking at this as a permanent closure, but instead a chance to pause and reset and come back anew. Retail is difficult. It’s all-consuming and it’s tough! There are A LOT of ups and downs. Current circumstances (tariffs, shipping, increased costs across the board) have made it harder and harder to stay afloat. Downtown Whitby is not what it once was. I’ll be taking some time to figure out how and where I may want to reopen. In the meantime, I will still happily complete your custom orders. I plan on offering a selection of my favourite things and seasonal treasures on our web site. We will participate in vendor markets. And we’ll see where we might land again. I hope you will still support us in this new format. 

All of this obviously means that we have the very daunting task of closing the store. That means SALE!! All of our remaining Christmas merchandise as well as remaining Fall merchandise is now 70% off! Regular merchandise is 40% off! Please come by and take home a last little piece of Words on Wood at 113 Brock! Also, please bring a reusable shopping bag if you are able (it would be most appreciated!). 

Our hours will be a bit off through the month, but I will update you weekly. This upcoming week we will be open Tuesday 11-4, Wednesday and Thursday 1-4 and Friday and Saturday 11-4.
